In my first blog post, I chose pieces from the “Go Bucs Game Day” series of my work that I made for Whitworth Athletics
. When I started working as a Graphic Design Lead at Whitworth Athletics, I had the challenge to create a new style and theme for the current designs. Our goal is to create the best home game experience for our athletes and fans by boosting team spirit through digital media, sponsored events, giveaways, and more.
I created a template for each sport and made it easy to change for the next home game. Because I was the only graphic designer on our team, making a template was the best solution for this challenge because it would take a long time to create a unique design for every game. The template includes all the necessary information, including the team names, date, time, and location. From September to December 2021, I made over 40 Game Day posters and included over 20 individual athletes in the designs. This idea was very effective to reach more people and attract more attention.
For the second project for Whitworth Athletics, I had to create a visual for Whitworth athletes in order to let students know more about each other. We interviewed 17 student-athletes and asked them interesting and fun questions. The name of the series is “Getting to Know the Pirates” and I created a total of 17 digital visuals for the student-athletes.
In order to keep the Whitworth Pirates theme, I chose white, black, and red colors in the series. The two typefaces I chose for this series represent a modern sports tone.
Our athletes had a successful year during 2021-22. We had competed in multiple NCAA Div. III Championships, including women’s volleyball, men’s basketball, swimming, and track and field. Therefore, I had to create these important posters for the championship games to support the athletes. In the posters, I chose certain colors and backgrounds to represent the specific sports. This was a great opportunity to support our athletes through posters that reached many students and fans.
For the spring season sports, I had the challenge to create new templates for softball, lacrosse, tennis, baseball, track & field. This was a great opportunity for me to research these sports and create a unique theme. Similar to the fall season sports, my designs include important information regarding the date and time, location, and team names. Since February 2022, I created over 25 Game Day Designs and included over 20 individual athletes.
